Usually fat people are identical with those who love to eat and sleep. But a study says another. According to research carried out recently, people who sleep less are even more susceptible to obesity.
"People who sleep less than eight hours a day to show the symptoms become more obese," said Dr. Shahrad Taheri, one of the researchers who write research on the journal Public Library of Science Medicine.
This is because people who slept in a short time has a higher content of ghrelin and lower leptin content. Ghrelin is a hormone that triggers increased appetite, while leptin, in turn, stop wanting someone to eat.
Well, if someone higher ghrelin content, he will feel hungry all the time. Whereas in the case of sleep deprivation, leptin is low, so there's no stopping the hormones desire to eat it.
"If you do not lack sleep, you will more easily control your hunger and keep not become too fat," says Dr. Eve Van Cauter, a professor of Health at the University of Chicago, who was involved in the research.
In experiments conducted on about 1,000 volunteers, found that people who slept only five hours a ghrelin 15 percent more than those sleeping eight hours. Those who sleep less leptin also has 15 percent less.
Furthermore, Dr Taheri said, there is evidence that children aged two years despite having the risk of obesity when less time sleeping. "We must realize that sleep is not the activities that waste time. We must realize the implications for our health."
In subsequent studies conducted at the University of Chicago, found, people who slept only four hours a night for two nights of leptin decreased 18 percent and ghrelin increased to 28 percent. Those who lack sleep are also likely to search for sweet and fatty foods.
